The Genius 5

Isokinetic Sampler for Short-Term Emission Measurements

Standards and Methods

The Genius 5 is suitable for automatic control of isokinetic sampling and constant flow sampling at stationary source emissions. The three examples below show, that the Genius 5 is versatile to control all the three methods.

EN 13284-1: 2001 Determination of low range mass concentration of dust

Measurement of dust concentrations needs isokinetic sampling with traversing of the probe. Before the measurement, the Genius 5 performs a leak test and documents the results. The operator defines the stack type and dimensions, afterwards Genius 5 recommends the number of sampling points and the size of the nozzle. After configuration of sampling points and nozzle size, the system is ready for sampling.

The dust filter temperature is adjusted to 160°C ± 5°C. After start of the measurement the Genius 5 adjusts isokinetic within 1 minute in the defined range (-5% to +15%). Whenever a change of the sampling position is needed, the measurement engineer is informed by an acustic signal.

At the end of the sampling period, Genius 5 stops the measurement. The measurement report is ready for print out and data download.

EN 1948-1: 2005 Determination of
the mass concentrations of PCDDs/PCDFs and Dioxin-like PCB´s

Measurement of dioxins and dioxin-like PCB´s needs isokinetic sampling with traversing of the probe. The Genius 5 is able to control the filter/condenser method (method B.2).

Before the measurement, after assembling of the sampling equipment the Genius 5 starts the leak test and documents the results. In case of a stack temperature of less than 120°C, the probe temperature is adjusted to 120°C. The dust filter temperature is adjusted to less than 120°C. The adsorber temperature is adjusted to 20°C, in case of the cooler is not able to be controlled, only the outlet temeprature is recorded.

After starting the measurement, isokinetic sampling is adjusted within the range defined within 1 minute. Whenever traversing is needed, the measurement engineer is is informed by an acustic signal.

At the end of the sampling period, Genius 5 stops the measurement. The measurement report is ready for print out and data down load.

EN 13365: 2003 Determination of
the total emissions of As, Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, Pb, Sb, Tl and V

Measurement of these metals requires isokinetic sampling and traversing of the probe. The Genius 5 is able to control main stream sampling using Midget impingers or Greenburg Smith impingers. Nozzle size is calculated, so that volume flow is < 2,0 m3/h.

Genius 5 performs a leak test after assembing of the equipment. After starting the device, it adjusts isokinetic sampling within the defined range. Temperature of sampling probe and filter housing are adjusted to 20°C above flue gas temperature or dew point (dependent which is higher). Whenever traversing is needed, the measurement engineer is is informed by an acustic signal.

At the end of the sampling period, Genius 5 stops the measurement. The measurement report is ready for print out and data download.
